Suggest an alternative to the (US) “Pledge of Allegiance” as a way for school kids to start each day.

My Pledge of Allegiance:

I pledge allegiance to my homeland, and the United States of America, and to the people with whom we live with. Our communities within our lands, individual, with liberty and justice for all.

#tdc2126 Pitch the Story: The Island of Yum

This Daily Create published

Wander back through the old days of newspaper comic strips and you’ll find some pretty strange, and intriguing, concepts.

via Comics UK ForumFor example, The Wonderful Island of Yum from the 1960s is a trippy comic about .. well … let’s let the Look and Learn site explain the comic’s story-frame:

The Island of Yum is a colourful land you can only get to in your dreams. Peter and Pam were two young children who travelled to Yum where they were met by Splosh, a talkative baby whale who takes them to meet Professor Yum who owns the island. The professor owns a pirate ship and a rocket ship if he needs to travel and there is always the little engine that needs no tracks to travel around the island. There are plenty of other inhabitants, including the Yum Indians who live in tepees, the Snow Boys of Icecream Mountain, the Wizard of Yum and a friendly dragon. — via Look and Learn

Ok, then.

Now, imagine the comic is being revamped and revisited for the web. Pitch a storyline in a single tweet for the new adventures of The Island of Yum. Sketched artwork on the backside of a napkin of your idea will double your #ds106 dollars

Twitter Post:

“The adventure of island of yum starts with Professor Yum teaming up with the Yum Natives to fight the Evil Yum dragon Tobby. #diglitclass”

Forget all the other phones. From now on there’s only one phone people would like to have:

The DS106-phone.

Tell us what special features that Phone will have. Even better, show us in an annotated image.

This is the new ds106 PacMan phone. As a spokesman, I would like to state that it has a universal cellphone policy where it can work on any location on earth, even Antarctica. Another function it has is that it has a cool PacMan game inside of it as a cool function. The phone is able to text, has a small touch screen, has unlimited wifi, and a four year warranty policy. The battery life of this phone lasts an estimated five days, and a battery saver application.

Can you identify places in the world via images? But more than the game play, can you connect them as a story?

The Earth Picker generates five random places in the world from the view of of google Street View. Then you try to guess the location by pinpointing where in the world you think it is on a map.

But scores and winning are so ordinary. Save those images in your mind, and weave a storied tweet of connections of the 5 places you visited.

Tweet: “I went to church at BAsilika Sacre-Coeur, Paris, then I flew to Canada, went to pick up my sister in Puerto Rico, we went swimming in Big Surf Waterpark, Arizona, and went back home to South Africa. #diglitclass”.

Take one idiom (choose your culture).

Illustrate it.

Be literal.

Or not.

Share.

This Idiom represents a fish out of water. I choose to draw a literal form of the expression by altering a photo from my phone.
