Oops, we had a lapse in the system. We missed World Kindness Day on November 13.
But why should we be kind just that day? We therefore declare today, November 28, as DS106 Kindness Day.
Write and share a kind poem to / for someone else in DS106. See what happens!

Choose a poem that you’ve written or like and rewrite it in its reverse, making the last line the first, etc.
Then slightly revise this version, creating a new poem.

Kreate something kreative that expresses your kreativity. I skipped this create challenge, because I really couldn’t understand what was mean by kreativity.

What made Roger hate this park so much? Yet, he still got a plaque for it.
Write, create something to give some insight into this figure.

Roger, he was just a typical man. He woke up every morning, got ready for work in his wood shop, took his dog out for a walk in the park, went to work, came home, and went to bed. Today however was a little different for Roger. He woke up and then got ready for work. The city had hired Roger to make seven benches for them that day. Roger then took his dog out for a walk, but didn’t return home that night. You see, as he was walking his dog through the park the most unlikely of occurrences happened. His ex-wife and daughter were also at the park playing on the swings. Trying to avoid confrontation he walked on the at sidewalk. The sidewalk just on the edge of fifth avenue where the traffic was greatest. Unfortunately confrontation was inevitable. His daughter, Laura, caught sight of him, jumped out of her swing, and ran to her father. She had missed him so much since the last time they meet in January. Laura’s mother, Christina, also Roger’s ex was distraught. They had broken up for a reason, and now here he was with his dog? She wasn’t going to stand by and let Roger break the custody agreement. While arguing Laura decided to finish Jack’s walk, the dog. It was during the argument between Christina and Roger that the crash happened. Laura was walking Jack when Jack decided to dart after a rabbit. Laura, only being six, was unable to keep Jack, a mastiff mix, from dragging her by her arm. Jack chased the rabbit into heavy traffic, and Laura and Jack were both hit by a semi-truck. This caused a multi-car-pileup which resulted in the deaths of Laura, Christina, Jack, the rabbit, and two people in their cars. Roger was fortunate to have survived with a sever limp which would stay with him his whole life. Roger later finished the benches  for the city. To thank Roger for his service the city dedicated one of the benches to Roger. Roger tried to explain why he didn’t want that particular bench to have a plaque dedicated to him, however the city insisted and created this very insensitive plaque to honor him.

Monuments are in peril! They are either being pulled down by protestors or decimated by the president.

Create, design a monument about monuments, draw it, share it and tell us how it will preserve the monumental stature of monuments.

I made the national museum of Offensive Monuments and Murals. This is a museum dedicated to preserving parts and records pertaining to offensive works of art. The building its self is made unproportioned, as to offend those who look at it. This will help preserve all works of art that may fall into culturally and politically offensive as the years progress in our nation’s history.

Conclusions

During the semester the daily create challenges were a fun way for me to engage in different forms of art. Being able to try out new ideas without as much pressure is a great way to keep creativity alive in the classroom. I was fortunate to be able to enjoy ds106.

Capture the audio sounds of you knocking on a door, or a table, or some other material. Make it stranger than strange.

To do this daily create challenge, I sent it to my twitter account. I was unable to successfully  transfer my audio file though, so I ultimately choose to do a short 15second video instead. I posted it to twitter.

For TDC2141 create some art to celebrate this super heroic feat of mathematics.

world peace

For this daily create, I choose to do a piece of origami. Professor Euclide Paracelso Bombasto Umbugioj predicted that in 2141 it would be the end of the world. I interpreted this as the end of how our world currently is.  My piece of art is one peace of paper which has created a double peaked mountain, and a crane (commonly representing peace) flying over the peaks. This represents the whole world achieving peace.

As someone who doesn’t watch cable or television shows, I have decided not to do this daily create challenge. The challenge was to create a video celebrate your favorite television show.

Poor Bryan Alexander. Weary from travel, he arrives in his home airport only to be faced with a scary clown. But maybe Ronald McDonald is a good comforter, counselor. Edit the image to add someone on the bench that Uncle Ronald could offer solace too. Maybe Bryan himself.

This is a very funny create challenge for me. I have a terrible phobia of clowns, and would die from anxiety if a scary clown faced me. If Ronald McDonald has to comfort someone, I think he should counsel Charles Manson. I know Charles Manson died recently however I believe a terrible person like Manson could use some consoling. I struggled for two hours on photoshop trying to cut out a picture of Charles Manson. So instead I used word for a bad photoshop session. I want to thank my friend for her help in this create challenge. Thank you.

Your challenge is to put two unlikely paired images side by side, and generate an image in the same style as the robots (the looks like Impact font on the bottom bar) with an equally amusing mashed up headline caption.

“Free access to knowledge for all!” That’s what the relatively unknown literary super hero, Captain Book, stands for.
But what does she/he look like? Or what’s the logo / emblem ? What is displayed on the sky when we call out for help of Captain Book?

Draw or create some imagery (create, is not just googling for someone else’s)

What other video games never existed? Come up with a name for the game. Maybe a backstory. Instructions on how to play? Sure. A graphic would be cool.

This game is called Owls & Mice. I am making up this video game after a game I played as a child. A player starts out with three lives and has to jump from one hay bail to another one. There are ten levels and in each level the owl gets a little faster. If a player gets caught by an owl, it creates another owl for the player to avoid.

But how about making your own visual book covers based on one of your favorite books and sharing it with us to see who can guess it?

WaterShipDownCover

So, in retrospect I decided this can be considered vague. This is a cover for a story about rabbits who take an epic journey to escape a great danger at their home warren.

Robert Mcnees found this ‘very small, very round bookstore mouse’ when looking for secondhand books. The Tiny Mouseling told him: ‘Please good sir, i am but a mouseling.

If you let me return to my family I will tell you one of the tales I have learned in this place.’
Over to you; tells us a ‘Magic Mouseling Tale’. Video? Okay. Gif? Harder but possible. Audio? Easy. And never underestimate a good old fashioned blog post.

The tale that the mouse decided to share was an The Rescuers. Being one of my favorite childhood films, I found it surprising fitting for this daily create challenge.

Conclusive Thoughts:

I meant to post my daily create challenges earlier, however I did not realize that they saved as rough drafts. Sorry about the late post.

Digital Literacy: Innovative Leaner

Digital Literacy: Innovative Learner

According to learnersdictionary.com, an innovative learner is a learner who can introduce new ideas or methods into their learning.

I interpreted an innovative learner as a learner who is able to connect with other learners to then share their ideas and respectfully develop their own ideas. As Couros, G. stated, “I believe that isolation is the enemy of innovation, and I will learn from others to create better learning opportunities for others and myself (The Mindset of an Innovator, Couros, G.). Being an innovative learner means that one is willing to learn and unlearn certain ideas, and communicating with others is a very effective way to learn and unlearn certain ideas.

Innovative Learner this Semester

This semester I can relate to innovative learning because in many ways I was an innovative learner. Reading fellow students’ wordpress blogs really helped me to better understand different ideas that I did not have this semester. One example was when I was reading about digital activism, and read some of my fellow classmates blogs. They had ideas about how to be a digital activist, which I would not have thought of. One was donation pages. It is a very simple way to digitally activate for a cause, but one that I did not think of.

As a learner I see innovative learning in a few different ways.

One way I can see innovative learning is when I use several references in an article. Some of these references would provide a similar ideas to back up my thinking, while other references would provide opposing ideas.

Another way I can see innovative learning is through group work. Group work requires several individual’s ideas to converge into one project.

A third way I see innovative learning is through forum posts and projects where others can offer comments and ideas. In forum posts individuals are able to agree with ideas and oppose them through comments. “I build upon what I already know, but I do not limit myself to myself.

Couros, G. talks about sharing ideas in his article, The Steep “Unlearning Curve”. I’m open to and willing to embrace new learning, while continuously asking questions to move forward(The Mindset of an Innovator, Couros, G.).” Comments allow new ideas to flow between individuals on online formats, helping to let others embrace and interpret our ideas.

Unlearned

In education there are most definitely a lot of ideas that I have unlearned. One idea that I unlearned is the idea of blogs. Growing up I was constantly told by my parents and friends that blogs were a waste of time. Now that I understand blogs more, I have come to see them as just another possible helpful tool. Similar to social media.

As a future educator there will also be things that I will have to learn and unlearn. One thing that I unlearned while at Chadron was the idea of the Sped room. Growing up I was taught that kids who were disabled needed to be educated in the Sped room. Now that I have been reeducated on the topic I realize the value of LRE. I also relearned what a disability means and that it should never define someone, especially students. There are a lot of other values I have unlearned during my education at Chadron.

As a future educator I would like to unlearn some other prejudices I may have, and I would like to learn more about how to unlearn some cultural bias certain communities may have.
